A Little Kitchen Background

Before homesteading and sharing recipes here, I spent years working in supper club kitchens, where I learned how to make truly restaurant-quality meals at home. I started working in kitchens when I was just 13 years old, and over time I built more than 15 years of hands-on restaurant experience.

Bacon wrapped filet mignon was a staple on many menus, and those early years taught me the importance of proper seasoning, a good sear, and letting quality ingredients shine. This recipe brings those supper club techniques into a home kitchen so you can enjoy a steakhouse-worthy meal without ever leaving the house.

Whether you’re cooking for a special occasion or just treating your family to a hearty, memorable supper, this bacon wrapped filet mignon is a recipe you’ll come back to again and again.

You’ll notice in the photos, we made a lot of steaks today. We used a whole tenderloin and cut it into 1 ½ inch steaks. A great size for wrapping the bacon around.

Tips for the Best Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon

  • Use thin-cut bacon. Traditional supper club and steakhouse recipes often use thin-cut bacon, which cooks through evenly and crisps nicely as the steak finishes cooking.
  • Don’t skip the resting time. Resting ensures a juicy, tender steak.
  • Secure the bacon. Toothpicks help keep the bacon snug while cooking.

Can You Make Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon Ahead of Time?

You can wrap and season the filet mignon up to 24 hours in advance. Store them covered in the refrigerator until ready to cook. This makes prep easier for holidays or special dinners.

Cooked filet mignon is best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be saved if needed.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

To store. Place leftover bacon wrapped filet mignon in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

To reheat. Warm gently in a 275°F oven until heated through. Avoid microwaving if possible, as it can overcook the steak and make it tough.

Beef Tenderloin and Crab meal

Can I grill bacon wrapped filet mignon?

Yes! Sear the steaks over direct heat, then move to indirect heat until desired doneness is reached.

Do I need to pre-cook the bacon?

No, but using thick-cut bacon and finishing in the oven helps ensure the bacon cooks evenly without burning.

What if I don’t have an oven-safe skillet?

You can sear the steaks in a regular skillet, then transfer them to a baking dish to finish cooking in the oven.

This bacon wrapped filet mignon recipe proves that you don’t need fancy techniques or expensive ingredients to create a truly special meal.
